Mastiha (Mastic) is a resinous sap produced by the trunk and branches of the mastic tree. Mastiha appears in teardrop shape among the scratches and falls to the ground in drops. When its flow is constant, the drop is big and rather soft, while a non-constant flow gives a small but harder drop. Mastiha is available here in Small Grains/tears.

Chios gum mastic (Mastiha) has a protected designation of origin PDO. The natural gum mastic of Chios is recognized as a natural medicine (HPMC) also by the European Medicines Agency (ΕΜΑ).
