Whole Mahlepi Seeds (Mahleb, Mahlab, Mahlep) – Traditional Spice for Pastry Baking (10g) is a flavorful and aromatic spice made from the seeds of the Prunus mahaleb tree, which is native to the Mediterranean and parts of Asia. The seeds are commonly used in various regional cuisines, particularly in Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Balkan baking, where they add a unique, slightly bitter, sweet, and almond-like flavor with hints of cherry.

Key Features of this Product:

Authentic & Traditional Spice: Mahlepi (also known as Mahleb, Mahlab, or Mahlep) is a traditional spice used for centuries, especially in baking, due to its distinctive flavor and aroma. The whole seeds are harvested from the Prunus mahaleb tree, which produces small, cherry-like fruits. The seeds are ground or used whole to impart a unique flavor profile.
Flavor Profile: Mahlepi has a sweet, aromatic flavor that combines notes of almonds, cherries, and vanilla, with a slight bitter edge. When used in baking, it provides a warm, comforting fragrance and a depth of flavor that enhances both sweet and savory pastries.
Uses in Pastry and Baking: Mahlepi is most commonly used in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern pastry recipes, particularly in:
- Breads: It is often added to sweet or savory bread recipes, such as brioche, simit, and traditional Greek Easter bread.
- Pastries and Cookies: Mahlepi is essential in many traditional sweets, including ka'ak, koulourakia, and ma'amoul. It is often paired with nuts, dried fruit, or other warm spices.
- Sweets: It’s also used in cakes, pastries, and cookies for a unique twist, adding flavor to buttery doughs or sugary fillings.
Whole Seeds for Fresh Grinding: This 10g pack contains whole mahlepi seeds, which are ideal for those who prefer to grind their spices fresh. Grinding the seeds just before use releases the spice's full aroma and flavor, offering a more intense and aromatic experience compared to pre-ground versions.
Versatile and Unique: While it’s primarily used in baking, Mahlepi can also be added to syrups, ice creams, or even savory dishes, such as stews and pilafs, to bring a sweet, fragrant note. It’s a fantastic addition to anything where a distinctive, subtle spice is needed.
Cultural Significance: Mahlepi is an important ingredient in many cultural and regional recipes, particularly during holidays and festive occasions. It’s often used in celebration breads, cookies, and pastries, symbolizing tradition and hospitality.

Whole Mahlepi Seeds are a perfect way to elevate your baking and cooking with an authentic Mediterranean touch. Whether you're preparing traditional sweets, festive breads, or experimenting with new flavors, this 10g pack of Mahlepi will add a rich, distinctive taste and aroma to your creations.
